Pranks and bowler Hats…
Pranks and bowler Hats…
Well friends, this post will serve as as a summary of my last two weeks:
WORK
My life has consisted of this single tiresome burden when I’m not working, I’m relaxing, and thats about the extent of it.
Stephen and I are self-proclaimed brothers, by that I guess we hold an undying loyalty to each other, and to our mutual interests. While this may be very nice, in practise, it simply means that we tease each other with the severity of a dozen moon-maids, assuming they tease each other severely.
But beyond the usual rumer-quenching and bunk-bed falling (and tearing down part of the surrounding curtains by sitting on them my first time) we eventually settled down to a remarkable thing: V For Vendetta!

Such a remarkable film! I supremely enjoyed it! Now you may recall my earlier refusal to watch the film because of the exploding Houses of Parliament. But after getting over this offensive element, I was able to enjoy the events of the film leading up to it, and felt satisfy that, since they made no mention of the Queen, and since England is being ruled by a tyrannical Hitler-esque government, I decided to agree, reluctantly, with the main character, when he said, “England needs more than a building right now, it needs freedom”. Though, I still feel like an architectural marvel such as the houses of parliament should’ve been spared.
However, in keeping with great English Traditions, I’m happy to report that Colin has purchased his first bowler hat. Our sources report that this fashionable young man is attempting to bring the style back into vogue for the common AU student by 2010. Expect to see more Bowlers springing up in J Crew very soon.
Additionally, disease seems to be spreading across the floor, and have struck Justin B particularly badly. Lets hope he recovers to his cheerful self ASAP.

*Photo taken prior to my knowledge of his impending illness – had I known…
ALSO! I was pranked by my own roommate! Rather than have me write about it now, follow this link and watch the prank unfold for yourself. This wonderful production by Mr. Justin Mushnick guides the viewer through the thought-process of the mastermind at work, and shows the unexpecting chap thoroughly taken by surprise.

Hughes Two Ofners Close Season with Loss to Eagles
Hughes Two Ofners Close Season with Loss to Eagles
Well friends, my dear intramural soccer team lost yet again to “The Eagles” one of the most aggressive, and uncreative, teams to-date. I have the very strong desire to mock them for their ever-so-boring name (that smacks of plagiarizing every other AU team) and lack of some of the finer more respected attitudes in game-play. However, I will resist and say simply that they were probably tired when they created the team. One thing they did do well, however, was muscle their way to a victory against their more civilized opponents.

93% of the Hughes 2 Ofners, with Halley Ofner, our RA and Mascot, in black at center.

Me taking Stephen down prior to the start of the game.
However, the final score this last round was our highest yet:
10-2!
So, because I know you were keeping track, the Ofners final season record is as follows:
Game #1: LOSS 13-1
Game #2: LOSS 10-1
Game #3: LOSS 6-1
Game #4: LOSS 10-2

Stephen befriends the score keeper – Victoria, also a Hughes Two resident, however, this did not effect our score, or the outcome of the game.
Our mission for this game was the score at least 2 goals, which, thanks to Caroline and Stephen, was achieved by the end of the game. pictured above, was achieved in the 2nd half.
With this final loss for the Ofners, the season ended leaving the team and their governing coaches pondering the future, and planning on scrimmaging for purely recreational purposes very soon.

Above you can see Laura, in jeans, and Stephen, in dark blue shorts, playing their hearts out.
After the game Halley Ofner, queen of Hughes Two, graciously took the entire team out for ice cream at Mcdonald. Her generosity was unexpected and made for a welcome conclusion to a wonderful experience.

Until next time…
Knowledge Puffeth up…
Well friends, I’m afraid I’ve failed you: my dear readers! I haven’t kept you up-to-date on the VERY latest activities of Hughes Two. I would like to take this opportunity to repent and update on an event of a few days ago.
As we all know, the evening of THE GREAT DEBATE started like any other… folks were innocently sitting in the lounge like you would expect students to be…
The only one not in the lounge was Stephen, who was writing a paper.
Look how nice and short his hair is! Caroline (Rubix queen) and Justin where also there…
Justin has balloons under his shirt, just to settle any questions you may have…
Suddenly, in came Canadian (his name is andrew, but we all him Canadian because he’s from Canada!)! Here he is pictured in the background: (just ignore stephen)
Suddenly, THE BIG DEBATE started.
Now you must understand, Canadian like many of his contemporary AU students LOVES debating, and can turn any issue into a debate – and does with with a frequency that amazes some people. How it happens that he was arguing that most sensitive of issues, the invasion of Iraq. His argument came from the far liberal side, and hence, inherently nauseating. Now another problem with this dear chap, and many of his fellow college students, is that they turn EVERYTHING into an essay. One might easily hear 1-2,000 words before one gets a word in edgewise. Not that they’re bad words, just way too long for any dorm conversation. Also, don’t get me wrong, Canadian is a very smart guy, and has absorbed a huge amount of information about a variety of subjects, however, there is a reason we haven’t absorbed that information – we’re selective. Needless to say, his debates are dreaded by many people. So when He started to argue about Iraq, tensions where high!

Above: Canadian argues a point
Well the Hero of the day was Justin B., seen above dressed in Green. He and Liz at left were both on the debate team and I call him “debate-boy” or “Mr. Super-Debater”… or something like that, i don’t remember at the moment. Anyway, he put to use his brilliant head and strained the logic of the Canadian and eventually, after he had been backed into both a logical corner, and the physical one (the walls converged right behind him leaving no more visible room to back up, it wasn’t intentional)
Above; Justin, mid thought, in the heat of battle. Little does he know that many hopes are pinned on his brilliant shoulders.
Now, I’m told that it was an amazing logical victory for our team. I’m told that Canadian had holes up to the sky in his argument. Sadly, even though I was sitting there I didn’t understand a thing – thats how lofty the logic was. I was boggled by the craft which these two gentlemen used to argue. purely amazing stuff.
Above: In a later, more minor, victory about a subject of unknown origin, Stephen and Caroline celebrate stumping Canadian in an argument that was purely silly. Poor Canadian, we’re not ganging up on him, honest.
However, this brings up an important issue: Patience. I find my patience with long, seemingly endless dicussions of little or not importance to me, is dwindling. I simply have so much more I’d rather be doing than sit a listen to people drone on about things that I do care about. Thats what Gen Eds are for. to help illustrate, see the below graph:
As you can see, my patience level has dropped greatly since the time I first arrived at school nearly a year-and-a-half ago. To further illustrate my point, let me drone on and on for half an hour about this graph and my patience, which you really care nothing about, until you too join me down at the bottom of this graph.
I find I’d much rather simply walk of, or end the conversation, than waste hours of my life trying not to offend them. Now, to put you mind at ease, lest you think you’re one of them, on a whole I care about my friends, and I care about what my friends are saying, but sometimes, in certain instances, I really don’t.
So that being said, I leave you with this picture of the winning debate team, and our all-star “Mr. Super-Debater” Justin B.

Until next time…
You don’t tug on Superman’s cape
You don’t spit into the wind
You don’t pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger
And you don’t mess with Meiselman, da, do, da, do…
Ailing Leader Threatens Power Vacuum…
Sir Jason Cunningham imperial ambassador to the Hughes Two territory has been diagnosed with a severe case of Fall allergies. The ailing leader’s condition has caused him to be absent from several crucial meetings this week causing some to question the future of his leadership of the territory.
Cunningham has lead the T, the representative governing body of Hughes Two for the last two years, his illness has inhibited his ability to maintain order on the floor.
Sources report that among the many causalities his illness is his usually surpurb communication skills. His voice, hampered with fatigue powered by lungs slowly filling with fluid, his speech is increasingly labored and he frequently leaves his modifiers dangling.
In his last public appearance this week, Cunningham attended a lecture with Lady Allison Crean. The lecture was by famed historian Jerome Johns Calvert as he addressed the company about the historical change from notion of England into Great Britain. Shortly after the start of the lecture, witnesses say Cunningham descended into a fit of coughing and gasping and was forced to leave the hall.
Should Cunningham be unable to continue in his post, Sir Colin Meiselman is next in line for the prestigious post, however, is considered vulnerable to competitors seeking to change the T, it’s configuration, or even it’s demise.
Spokesman for Cunningham’s office say his medical staff will reassess his condition in the coming days.
Updates as events warrant.
Life spent rolling with Washington’s Elite!
Friends, you’ll never guess what happened! I met my first MAJOR political figure in person today! It as SO cool! I got my picture taken with him and everything!
This is Colin Meiselman, he’s a very important political figure in some later election. Right now he’s simply a college student biding his time. But just wait and see.
HE ACTUALLY SHOOK MY HAND! I won’t wash that hand ever again!!
Just kidding. He is a great friend though.
The Queen Movie
Typical Jason…
There comes a time in the course of the human experience when one simply needs to watch a good film.
Opinions vary on what a good film is, or even, what a good film does. However, when considering which films I am planning on seeing this fall, one film leaps to the forefront of my mind, and I’m sure you’ll all agree its a duzy!
“The Queen” is a movie that simply seems like the ideal way to spend two hours!
Above, the fake queen. At least they really captured her hair!
college update…
college update…
Well friends, the first and second day blues and exhaustion have given way to the usual rythmn of college life. While the homework this year seems more intense than last, it maybe I have mastered the art of dodging assignments (not that I do that anyway).
I am enjoying everyone on my floor thus far, most of us get along nicely. There are the usual roommate issues that I try and help my fellow students with – with only limited success.
My focus this last week, and most of this week, apart from school, is to develop deeper friendships with the friends I’ve made on the floor, most of whom are freshmen. Its really cool being the “older” and “more experienced” upper classman who can now guide them through life here – just as Sarah and Ryan did for me last year.
One example was this past Saturday when we went down to the American History Museum. After touring for a few hours, we all needed lunch. So, I used by super duper college sophomore powers to suggest that we go to the Old Post office for Lunch!

I believe everyone had a great time, all thanks to the visit Sarah, Ryan and I had last year.
Plus, we saw this:

The FUN CYCLE! A human-powered tricycle where 7 people sit peddling in a circle. The coolest thing ever!
So yes, the year is going, the friendships are flowing, the food we’re stowing, and the knowledge we’re knowing.

Above: Josh and Stephen (LR) looking strangely like a soccer referree convention. Stephen hates having his picture taken but makes up for it in baked goods. Josh is just fun to be with.

Above: Jes, like myself, a left-over from last year, she has emerged from being “Rachael the Recovering Recluse” (we needed a name that started with an R, so we changed her from Jes) to being one of the most delightfully humorous girls on this floor this year. her corky sense of humor, as indicated by this picture makes her great to joke with.

L-R: Alex, Thias (Tie-ees), and myself downtown.

above: My RA, we have many things in common. Strangely enough, She used to work at Silver Bay at Lake George, where we always go. She always shops at the MIddlebury Co-Op, that Ozie (my grandmother) started and continues to shop at. Also, she bought all her bikes at my Great Uncle David’s bike store! How amazing is that! And now we meet at AU. I’ll take that as a sign to trust God, eh what?
until next time!
An Inside joke…
An inside Joke…
“I feel like this conversation is inappropriate to be having with my RA. But after the lights go out, you’re not the RA anymore. I am.”-Justin
Pardon my inclusion of an inside joke, this is more for my own future references.
Ofners Continue Playing hard…
Yes friends, I’m afraid that the Huges 2 Ofners have lost two more times. On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, the Ofners faced to rival teams and were defeated both times.
The Ofners narrowed their losing margin by 3 whole points on Tuesday when they played Team Alexey finishing with a final score of 10-1. However, this slightly less dramatic loss did not hamper the Ofner’s drive and determination, but rather, the team rallied for their late-night game on Wednesday losing to the “Seven Deadly Sins” from Hughes 7. The concluding score from that round was an astounding 6-1.
Now, let me place these results in an easy-to-read format.
Round #1 – 13-1
Round #2 – 10-1
Round #3 – 6-1
Round #4 – ?
So you’ll see that the amount by which we’re losing has been dropping each game we play. Thus The Ofners are either getting better with time, or the teams are getting easier.
Colin Meiselman Coach and Captain of the Hughes Two Ofners said in a statement to the press on Thursday that, he felt the real acomplishment of the team was not in their victories, but in the amount of growth the team has experienced over the last few weeks.
Our exclusive sources within the team’s upper managment indicate that when the season ends after the Ofner’s last game on Monday, the team plans to continue playing on an informal basis for an unspecified period time.
A few notable absences from both the games where one Jason Cunningham, who missed Tuesdays game, citing school obligations. Stephen Nagle missed Wednesday’s game, and abandoned his team halfway through Tuesday’s game.
Stephen Sleeps on the job.
Thats the news from Hughes Two.
Another Source of Hughes Two News…
Another Source of Hughes Two News…
Well Friends, I’m pleased to announce that you now have an alternative source of news regarding the times and events here on Hughes Two and in the T. Yesterday Colin entered the college news business by unveiling a new blog that will detail our comings and goings.
However, I must comment on the questionable honesty and potentially untrustworthy nature of my competitor’s blog… I’m not saying that Colin is untrustworthy, for this certainly not true, but I’m saying that his perspective on events may not be as accurate as those to which you’ve grown accustomed to here.
Let me offer you and example:
On the Left you can see colin, the author of the Cmeis270 blog, and on the right, you see me, the author of my blog – a long-standing and trustworthy news source. Now, who’s face would you trust more for accuracy, authentic details, and thoroughness of coverage?
I thought so.
Now, in all honesty, I am really looking forward to reading his posts, I’m sure it will provide a valuable altnerative to the perspective you depend on from this blog. So feel free to stop by his blog and take a gander!
The Address is:
Well, I’m off to class.
