Celebrating a Historic Landmark…
Celebrating a Historic Landmark…
Today this blog celebrates a historic 801 days on the web. That is 801 days of only the most outdated, overstylized, and nearly filterless insights into the life and times of Jason Cunningham, and those friends he has the privilege to know.
That being said, this would be an excellent time to remind you that this is not an authoritative news source (except in matters pertaining to the thoughts and feelings of its creator), nor is it wholly representative of the feelings of ALL the residents of Hughes Two. That being said, I will continue to report events as creatively, and entertainingly as I can, with all undue flourish as is my way.
Sorry. I’m feeling defensive and moody. I hope your week is going well?
Are you currently engaged?
Are you currently engaged?
Well friends, as many of you know, David Sevrn Somervle and Miss Casey are now engaged. Now, I’ve seen this day coming ever since I first met David. I said, “someday, he might get married.” And now, here it is. My first close friend to be engaged. I’ve been told to start expecting more of these sorta things. Now David knows better than anyone how resistant I am to change, and this is a major change. I’m LOSING a friend! But, at the same time, Casey is also a friend, so two friends are bound together! Isn’t that cool?! Not to mention God-glorifying? However, from the very first time I met David, I have always enjoyed his friendship. He has challenged me in my faith, he has made me laugh, and been better friend than I could ever have hoped for. What a gift from God he has been.
I recall a time about 4 or 5 years ago when David and I had just finished dinner at Red Hot and Blue, and were talking about the future, and he started talking about how excited he was to have a family, and to be married to the woman of his dreams. By God’s grace he’s now found that woman, and I know they’re a match made in Heaven. Now, we have lots of memories, and as one chapter in our friendship gives way to another, I’d like to take a moment to pictorially look back at my good friend, with whom I’ve had SO many good times.
I hope God continues to bless David and Casey as they enter the rest of their lives. Even if he does have thick fingers. I hope to join them soon – with the rest of my life, that is.

Casey, are you sure you want to go through with this? haha.

DON’T FORGET THE SDP! DAVID ALMOST IS THE SDP!

David, Thanks for glorifying God with your life, and challenging me to do the same. I look forward to seeing how God continues to use you in the future as you transition to being a happily married man.

Ryder Davis would be proud.
Fare thee well!
Thanksgiving Day!
MERRY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!

Thanksgiving Day!
Well Friends, thanksgiving day was about like every other thanksgiving I can remember. Cold, dark, and rainy. Gotta love it.
Well friends, you may be wondering what I did for thankgiving. Well, you probably weren’t, but I am now going to do a post about it, so indulge me for a few moments. We decided to drive down to my Uncle Jim’s house in Fredericksburg Virginia, a drive of about 2.25 hours on the way down, and about 1 hour 10minutes on the way back up.
We first stopped by my Uncle Glenn’s house which is also in Fredericksburg, and saw his boiler, one of the latest updates on the construction of his house. After about an hour there, we headed off to Uncle Jim’s house. We finally arrived, and pretty promptly ate.
Dad looking rather blinded, with his brother, Uncle Jim, behind him. Uncle Jim is a big guy. At 6′ alot” he towers about those around him. My Grandparents were also there, James and Diane Cunningham, AKA Grandma Dede, and Papa Jim.

The Grandparents showing a well-coached sign of our times. Below: the sign of their times, Papa Jim being a Veteran of World War II. He served in the South Pacific.
Above and to the Right is my dear Aunt Barbra. She is a Avon Queen. By Avon Queen, I mean she sells and has lying around, enough Avon products to fill a small house… er… yeah. Avon makes primarily make-up and other small items. Aunt Barbra works for Avon, thus her deep and abiding passion for their products.
This brings us, in some strange way around to Uncle Tom:
No, Uncle Tom isn’t an Ax murderer, though he is a mail man… maybe he’s going postal? haha. No, he found that Ax in the woods by his house, and brought it to show us. A nice, but remarkably tall fellow.
Aunt Barbra always has these amazing Jello dishes, that either she, or one of her family makes. Its a hallmark of a Thanksgiving with her.
We then basically, hung out and talked for about an hour, then started driving home. That was it. A perfectly lovely Thanksgiving!
Midterm Elections unsettle Majority Leaders…
Midterm Elections unsettle Majority Leaders…
Well friends, now that the elections are over, a new kind of elections are underway. Room draw! These aren’t really elections per se, but the congressional elections do offer a humorous analogy for the process.
Above: The U.S. Capitol, below: the Flag of Hughes Two
If each room is a congressional seat, each each student is the representative, than the floor would be congress. Now, next semester not everyone will be returning to the floor. In fact, quite a few people will be leaving, and will be replaced with new “representatives”. Do you follow the analogy?
Currently, there are approximately 10 open seats on the floor, this is almost enough to dramatically change the political situation.
We currently have between 15 and18 “Freshman Congressmen” on the floor, including House Speaker Colin Meiselman (BM-207) (BM = Bull Moose Party):
Now, Colin is expected to to easily keep his office during the “elections” next month. You have to understand that Meiselmen (the plural?) are like Kennedys, which are the monarchs of Massachusetts. Though Speaker Meiselman shares hardly any of their political views.
One prominent Representative who is lagging heavily in the polls and is not expected to win his seat back is my district-mate, Justin Mushnick. It is anticipated that his seat will be filled by either Speaker Meiselman, or Representative Nagle (R-207), however, no word has yet come from any camp as to a final decision, which is expected later tonight.
On a side note, you’ll noticed the three representatives for District 207, Speaker Meiselman and Representatives Nagle and Rothman. Of the three, Nagle is a Republican, Rothman is a Democrat, and Meiselman is either a Democrublican, or Republocrat. Meiselman likes to classify himself as a “Reagan Democrat” because of his remarkably moderate views. This district is remarkable because of how balanced it is, politically. But this is a large detour in my post.

Above: Colin, Stephen, and Josh Representatives of District 207
One question that scholars are debating furiously is the balance of power. Will the Majority maintain power over the break, or will separatist party “The Axis” take power? Most analysts argue that not enough seats are being lost by the Majority to tip the balance too far in the Axis’ favour, however, unforseen circumstances might prevail.
One notable seat that has talking heads bobbling, is the probable election of a prominent Axis Congressman to the floor next semester. His addition may impact the political situation more than can be anticipated. His/her presence in the new congress would inhibit congressional productivity and give a deffinate boost to the Axis powers.

Above: The Majority Leadership enroute during a 2006 retreat.
One point of agitation on the part of the Majority leadership is the great delay in knowing the results of the election. While many of the decisions will be made in the coming weeks, the results won’t be known until mid January. As Speaker Meiselman said in a recent press conference, ”Only time will tell whether we’ve kept our majority”. This vague uncertainty has caused House Majority leader Cunningham to take actions to reserve the one opening seat in his district by having Representative Nagle try and fill the opening.

Above: Representative Nagle, and House Majority Leader Cunningham
Another faithful Representative that will be keeping his office next term is Majority Whip Justin “Broobs” Broubalow. He is a bulkward of our common cause, and wonderful whip.
The last news worthy issue is the fact that in the next turn, Miss Sarah Gmeiner, who was once a frequent feature of this blog before her semester in England, will once again be returning to campus life. However, she will not be returning to her now scrutinized seat, she will be an RA in either Hughes or Mcdowel where she will indubitably be a huge success. I look forward to posting more about my adventures with her soon.
This highly political post is dedicated to my good friends, and neighbors, Justin Broubalow and Colin Meiselman, whose passion for politics, and moderate views, help make this school a lot more pleasant to be at. Thanks!

Thats all for now, goodnight!
Election Night…
Election Night…
This last Tuesday was election night. As we probably all know, the Democrats took back both houses of Parliamen…. er… Congress rather. Hughes 2, being better than you, and being at AU one of the most politically active campuses in the country, decided to print out 50 maps, one page for each state, and each state divided into electoral districts. The residents of Hughes two then colored each district in with the corresponding color depending on which party the district went to. Here are some pictures.
Revised speaking order…
Revised speaking order…
| Not to seem to morbid or anything, but I’ve been thinking about my death – or more specifically, my funeral. I’ve started planning now, because I know that people don’t pay enough attention to realize such little things like the proper food to serve or who should be invited to speak. But don’t worry any longer, I’m here to help, while I’m still here!
For the moment, content yourself with the following speaking order/time allotments… WELL I’d like to revise my speaking order… THIS is the latest illustration of my wishes for my funeral. Intro. Mr. Robin Boisvert I think that should work. I guess I’ll never know, but knowing all these people, they should be able to think up something to say during that allotted period of time. Thanks! |
Halloween Extravaganza!
Halloween Extravaganza!
Well friends, the other night, October 31st was the Hughes Two halloween extravaganza!
It was a marvelous night filled with fun, food, and friends!! Let me share with you a few photos, since thats all people really look for in xangas anyway…

The lounge decked out for the event, which is pictured mid-way through.

Travis dressed as a construction worker…

Dr. John Doolittle tapping into his youthful spirit, dressed fancifully…

Colin, looking splendid in his hat, jacket, and tie.

This slightly blurry pictures of stephen betrays his lack of a costume!

Halley dressed as a ”Former New York Junior Miss” contestant. The roses which I provided, were specifically purchased to go along with her dress. Doesn’t she look beautiful?

The Pirate Maiden attacks the blow pop!
(L) Liz and (R) Thais dressed as Catholic School girls for the party. Thais is Jewish, not Catholic, which earned her the title “The First Vegetarian Jewish Nun”. We often tease her because she acts like a Vegetarian, and is as sweet and kind, and gracious, as a nun.

Simon, my roommate, and Halley, My RA pose for this lovely picture. I’m not sure who Simon is supposed to be, but he died his hair for the part.
On the Left is Caroline, she dressed up as some kind of goth, but we teased her about dressing up as Alan (Right) who broke from his usual monochromatic dress to cast himself as an army officer. Some people teased him about being Kim Jong Il, the dictator of N. Korea.

Here we see Colin, Stephen, and Josh, winning the door decorating prize. Stephen, who is a master decorator, barely snatched the prize away from their competitors by scrambling at the last moment to actually put of their decorations. Stephen claims to have decorated the entire thing himself, which seems to be entirely true given his distinctive style, so evident in the arrangement of the door (see below).

On the Left, is Stephen’s Door, and winner of the contest. On the Right, Alex, Thais, & Heather’s door, the door was painstakingly decoration over a long period of time, but didn’t win a prize.
Because I know you were wondering, here is my costume…

Yes, since I live at the top of Embassy Row, I decided to be an Ambassador. Wasn’t that an obvious choice? What else could I possibly have been!
Here are some other fiends in costume…

Here is Alexis dressed as a Witch, and Justin, dressed as…….

Here is Jess dressed as “Newspaper hands” Text doesn’t do her accent justice…

The Former New York Junior Miss is escorted into the room by two Gentlemen.
Prior to the party, I decided to try and get some work done in the T. As I tried to read, my darling “brother” (we consider each other brothers because it’s illustrious of the nature of the relationship) Stephen started taking advantage of my rather, plump, and portly nature by leaning on me as if I were a pillow!

After a while, we decided to play cranium. I must admit that I’m not as big a fan of cranium as I am of other games, however, It don’t mind watching others play.
And that was Basically halloween!
