Preparations underway for State Visit!

Speaker Meiselman’s office announced on Monday its appointments to the welcoming committee for this weekend’s state visit of Jeff, a friend of Speaker Meiselman’s from Massachusetts.

While none of the representatives could be reached for comments, Cunningham’s office released a statement saying that Mr. Cunningham was extremely honored to be playing a part in welcoming Jeff to Washington, and Hughes Two, and hoped he would enjoy his stay.

Jeff is expected to arrive mid afternoon on Friday, and will be welcomed at the Capitol building where Representative Meiselman will be hosting a tour.  Jeff’s visit will last the weekend.

For security reasons personnel have declined to say when Jeff will arrive, and also refrain from furthur comments about mode of transportation or route to the capitol.

Sentimentality crash…

Sentimentality crash…

I may be the only one, but I tend to idealize that past and think of “back then” as being a whole lot better than the present.  Thankfully, this has lessened since coming to college where my attention is more often focused on a supposed bright and glittering future.  However, this week I’ve been suffering from an acute case of nostalgia.  Nostalgia for what, you ask?  Well, last year, my Freshman year!

I don’t know why, but I have been really missing all the folks from last year who are no longer with us, and especially my former roommate Tage.

Above: a ca. 2005 file photo of Tage Danielson, my former roommate.

Tage was a great roommate, and after drifting apart during most of this school year, I’m pleased on note that I’ve had several really good conversations with him recently.  I find I really miss our late night talks about EVERYTHING!

MoveInDay MoveOutDay

Above Left: Our first meeting, August 2005, my first day at college during the heat of move-in.  At Right, our last day together, a school year later, in the heat of move out.

I also am really sick and tired of being myself!  The “cute” affable character that is Jason Cunningham.who doesn’t care about style, or being cool, or basically anything that people like about me!  This happens periodically.  I deeply wish I could be someone else.  Someone more normal.  someone athletic.  But I usually shake these things off.

Thats the news.  Until next time!

Trip to Mass, and Boston

March 17, 2007 at 3:17 pm (Ancient History from my Xanga) (, , , , )

Back from the North…

Well friends I have just returned from my Spring Break trip to Massachusetts!  And what a trip it was!  Absolutely amazing!  This amazing trip started with a rather terrible series of disasters flying up there.

I was hosted by my dear friend Colin, and he is the hero of our flight disaster.  We started off with a 5pm flight to Boston, where Colin’s parents would pick us up.  This flight was canceled for some unexpected reason.  We were put on another flight leaving at 10am the next day, which meant we would’ve missed out on Colin’s brother’s (Ryan’s) production of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”.

So while still at the dorms Colin called and got us switched to a flight from Reagan Airport, to JFK, and then on to Manchester, New Hampshire, where his parents would pick us up.  With that settled, we jumped on the metro, and headed down to Reagan.

Well, when we got to the airport, we waited around for about 45mins and then Delta called to say that our Delta Connection Flight XXXX has been delayed.  Then they called again, about 15mins later, saying that our flight had been delayed a 2nd time.  We would now be taking off at 7pm.  It was currently 5pm when we got the news.

This was our plane… sorta, it looked just like this anyway… It wasn’t this EXACT plane.

Why was our plane delayed?  Well, the plane was here, and ready to go, but no crew where there to fly it!  So we had to change flights again!  This time, we would fly from JFK to Providence Rhode Island.  Thankfully, at the next gate over, they were trying to squeeze a few more passengers that had just been abandoned onto another flight that was leaving at that very moment for JFK.  We were a few of the lucky ones where were squeezed onto that flight!

So we landed in JFK uneventfully.  We stood in line for our new boarding passes for 45mins in front of a guy who had flown in from Germany and was crying into the phone about how mean New Yorkers where, and how he missed his family, and wished his mom would stopped giving him a hard time about his own flight be canceled.

I also saw Jesse Jackson, on his way somewhere.  He looked normal.

Finally, we got our boarding passes (mine had lots of trouble printing… I was kinda scared for a while)

Then Colin and I placed the last order at the a JFK chinese restaurant and got the gooey scrapings of General Tso’s Chicken from the bottom of a pan that had been sitting there most of the day.  The place then closed.  Mark Twain was right though, hunger is the best sauce, and Colin and I both enjoyed the food.

Finally, our flight boarded, and took off, but there was another twist!  The plane was a propeller plane, and we walked out on the runway out to the plane and up a gangplank into the plane.

This is the type of plane we had, only it was a Delta Connection plane, and run by Comair.

It was amazing, like something out of a old movie.  Colin and I both had seats right near the propeller, which made us both a little nervous that the propellers would fly off and hack us into bits.  But we got over it.

We landed at Providence RI without a hitch, and quickly discovered that the airline had lost our luggage.  But thats to be expected given the the number of changes and switches around we went through.

We finally got to Colin’s home at 1:30am, roughly 11.5 hours after we left.

The next day, Saturday, we relaxed and drove around Wayland, MA, to see Colin’s home town a little.  We drove past all the schools he went to, or most of them anyway, and I saw his old house, and neighborhood, etc.  Then we attended Ryan’s play, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to The Forum.”

I really like this shot of Colin our first morning.  A little bit the Mr. Rogers, isn’t he?

ON SUNDAY, we headed down to the Cape.  AKA, Cape Cod.

Colin, getting gas, and getting ready for the drive to Cape Cod!

Here we are in the town of Chatham, on Cape Cod.  It’s pretty much as far East as Cape Cod goes, but not north, its the South Eastern part of the L of cape cod.

Colin and I were very proud of ourselves because we were able to navigate our way all the way to the cape and back without getting lost once.  We did miss one turn, but realized it as we were in the intersection, and thus could turn around quickly.

On Monday, we did a local day, and visited Walden Pond, and The Battlefield at Lexington, where the shot heard around the world was fired.

First Walden Pond.  The pond is famous for being the home of Thoreau, the author whose notes he later published in the book, “Walden”.

These two photos were taken at the same time, at Walden Pond.

Before We went to Walden Pond, we had brunch at Mel’s Commonwealth Cafe, pictured below.  The restaurant is a wonder, serving one amazing breakfast, and seemingly staffed entirely by mothers of a friendly and personable variety, who know how to keep a hungary boy fed!

Then we went to the Lexington Battlefield… not much to see really, and since Colin and I were still tired, from the flight, we decided to simply take photos from the car window…

On Tuesday Colin, Sarah and myself got a tour of Harvard University with Melinda!

Sarah has a great way of giving tours, she says “And this is Ye Olde _____”  the blank could be anything, even a CVS.  Well, when we saw Yee Room, we just had to get a photo.  Colin uses his beautiful hands to guide  your eye to the sign… so you don’t miss it.

After Harvard, we toured boston, and saw many of the same things I saw last year… but really enjoyed both times!

On Wednesday we went to Groton Massachusetts, and visited Sarah and Mrs. B, who baked us cookies, and we had tea.  It was Awesome!  I LOVE Mrs. B.

Then we went to Groton’s bad chinese restaurant, which has become a bit of a tradition.  Then I had my first New England  Frap.  A Frap is kinda like milkshake, except its a lot more creamy and rich and smooth.  It was amazing!

Then I caught a flight home, which went well, and thats about all I have to say about that…

…except that it was an amazing trip and I enjoyed every moment of it!

Milestone, and Class update…

March 6, 2007 at 3:19 pm (Ancient History from my Xanga) (, , )

Milestone, and Class update…

Well friends, Today is pack-jammed with milestones.

1) It’s Halley Ofner’s Birthday, she’s 21 years old.

P1010015

The long-reigning Monarch of Hughes Two is planning to celebrate her birthday in style, at Chef Geoff’s with a few friends, and colleagues.  One of Her Majesty’s spokesperson announced yesterday that Queen Halley will be stepping down as RA of Hughes two, and taking a position in the Newly opening Nebraska Hall, behind the Katzen Art Center.  She will be missed.  No news yet, as to who will be the New RA of Hughes Two, for Fall 2007.

2) Sarah Gmeiner moves to Hughes

dorm room 025

Sarah Gmeiner announced today that she will be moving to Hughes Hall from McDowell Terrace.  While an exact floor has not been decided, and its unlikely she’ll be on Hughes Two, residents on both sides of the divide are overjoyed at her transition to Hughes.

3) Today Marks 900 Days on Xanga.

StrongJasonCurling

Today marks the 900 day anniversary of my creation of this site - a site that has brought you memorable graphics and enthralling stories, and spelning/gramor misakes, that we all enjoy.  I hope you all enjoy reading about my life, as much as I enjoy documenting it… though I seriously doubt that – sorry.

Now, I would like to write a few notes about my classes.  I am really enjoying most of them.  The only one I don’t enjoy is History, where the professor is boring as all get out.

Professor Fernando Benadon
Masterpieces of Music

His class is amazing.  I really enjoy the way he guides me through hearing all the hidden themes and blatant structural elements of pieces of classical music that I had never appreciated before.  Simply awesome!

Professor Patricia Lewis
Brand Management

Professor Lewis is a very intensely organized teacher.  She uses every second of our 2.5 hours class to instill as much information as humanly possible into the minds of her students.  She has so much real-world experience that it makes your head spin.  She also is completely dedicated to Diet Coke – aka she has a high Brand Loyalty.

Professor Manoj (Man-osh) Hastak
Consumer Behavior

Professor Hastak is Indian, or so his slight accent seems to indicate.  He is a very clear presenter of information, and has slides to illustrate.  He often talks about his young son who buys the crackers with the Sponge-Bob Square Pants icon on it, rather than the regular ones.  “It’s brilliant marketing actually… I try and tell my son that their the same thing, but he won’t listen, he wants the sponge bob ones…”

Professor Sarah Menke-Fish
Film and Video Production I

Contrasting sharply with Professor Lewis, Professor Menke-fish doesn’t use class time wisely, but does maximize the opportunities for unique experiences her classes have.  This semester we are working with Tech De Monterrey University in Mexico on our Final Project.  What this means is that, during spring break, half our class is going to travel down to Mexico, to meet with the students down there and film a project.  This is epic educational/technological  achievement pushed to the max!  Actually, a little past the max.  Most classes are spent trying to slowly yell our video ideas into a microphone while staring at the fuzzy pixely image of a mexican classroom, and wishing we could just meet face-to-face.  But she gets points for trying.  I actually haven’t learned anything in her class thus far, but have had a whole lot of fun playing around with our various assignments.  She takes the thinking, that give a boy a camera, and he’ll learn – teach a boy how to use a camera, and he’ll fall asleep in class after staying up all night.  She’d be right – unless you don’t know anything about the subject to begin with.

Professor Andrew Yarrow
The United States Since 1945

Nothing much to say here; interesting class, boring professor.  He trys really hard, and I desperately want to believe I’m having a good time in class, but his voice is just too monotone, and his expressions are just too blank.  But, his tests are easy, and it’s a take-home final, so YAHOO!
